Overview of opportunity: The Shalem Center, a Jerusalem-based research and educational institution, seeks an experienced Major Gifts Executive to direct our North American fundraising efforts to establish Shalem College, the first liberal arts college in Israel.
Position description: Crucial to our success in launching Shalem College will be the recruitment of a Major Gifts Executive tasked with expanding Shalem’s North American major gifts program, leading the multi-million dollar campaign required to launch Shalem College, and assisting with the marketing and communications efforts needed to support the campaign. The ideal candidate will have proven success, at institutions with substantial major gifts programs, in cultivating partners and lay leaders to become committed supporters. He/she will be capable of inspiring the involvement of philanthropic leadership at the highest levels, as well as effective management of a team tasked with building awareness, engagement, and commitment to Shalem College in key communities. He/she will have substantial experience working with communications professionals in implementing marketing and media campaigns on par with those of leading universities and colleges.
Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage all fundraising in North America in coordination with senior management of the Shalem Center in Israel.
- Develop ongoing major gifts campaign plan, including the establishment of goals and a time frame for achieving them.
- Identify, attract, and recruit new lay leadership to serve in an advisory and supportive capacity to increase fundraising and to augment Shalem’s presence in North America, and assist new leadership group in cultivating new prospects.
- Plan and implement meetings and events that promote major gifts featuring scholars and management from the Shalem Center, who will support solicitation efforts.
- Identify, cultivate, and oversee the solicitation and securing of gifts for support from major private philanthropists, foundations, and corporate donors.
- Serve as the North American spokesperson and advocate at meetings, events, and conferences promoting Shalem’s uniqueness in a competitive market place.
- Implement a stewardship, recognition, and acknowledgement program for donors (in conjunction with Israeli office).
- Work with communications professionals to develop and implement a marketing and media plan.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree.
- Minimum of five to seven years of senior development experience.
- Proven track record in major gifts fundraising and demonstrated success in obtaining six and seven figure gifts.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills as well as an ability to eloquently articulate the mission and future aspirations of Shalem College.
- Ability to present as a confident, informed and inspiring leader and spokesperson.
- Clear and compelling writing skills.
- Working knowledge of fundraising tools and technology.
- Ability to travel throughout North America and periodic trips to Israel.
